Improving Broadband Connectivity in Sturgeon County
Proposed Motion
1. That Council endorse the proposed Broadband Pilot Project - Phase 1 and the phased plan to provide broadband services to all areas of the County in principle, pending future need and resource availability.
2. That Council direct Administration to prepare a Request for Proposals for the County to partner with an Internet Service Provider for the completion of the Broadband Pilot Project - Phase 1, for Council’s approval at a future Council meeting.
3. That Council direct the Mayor to send letters to the applicable federal Ministers and local Member of Parliament advocating for increased flexibility in the eligibility criteria for the Universal Broadband Fund.
4. That Council direct Administration to submit an application to the Universal Broadband Fund and other eligible grant programs for the Broadband Pilot Project - Phase 1.
5. That Council direct Administration to investigate options to bring improved broadband services in the short term to Sturgeon County residents and business, with recommendations to be brought to Council in Q1 2021.
